New life for Joseph’s coat of many colours

With its catchy songs and vibrant array of musical styles it’s no wonder that Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat has enjoyed such frequent productions over the decades.
TAS Drama and Hoskins Centre Manager Emma Buzo is directing this much loved musical and is delighted with her cast of talented young singers and performers.
“There’s so much natural talent among these young people,” said Emma Buzo.
“Being in a musical gives them the discipline and experience they need to realise this talent.”
Co-workers on the production include TAS Director of Music Nik Glass, PLC’s Amy Walsh and one of Armidale’s most popular musicians Warwick Dunham as repetiteur. Other local professionals who will be taking their place in the pit include Sarah and Stephen Thorneycroft, Rob Woodhouse, Paul Brandscheid and Benn Tracy.
“The creative team is extraordinary in terms of their expertise and knowledge,” said Nik Glass.
“The cast are so lucky to work with them.
“Often it’s the school musical that becomes one of the students’ enduring positive memories of their time at school.”
The universal themes of loyalty, jealousy, forgiveness and the importance of family life in this musical parable are brought to life through a pastiche of different styles including rock and roll, disco, country and calypso.
Last year’s production of “Grease’ was sold out two weeks before it opened and “Joseph’ looks set to do the same with only a few seats left in some performances. This year, TAS decided to program a schools matinee and invite all the primary schools in the local area. Organisers are thrilled this matinee is now sold out as the Hoskins Centre is a place committed to welcoming the greater community.
