Young athletes right on track

Students, teachers and a huge contingent of parent spectators were treated to a flawless day for Tweed Heads South Public School’s annual Athletics Carnival last term.
Burbi, Gwondo and Jugarah marched to the oval in a stylish display of discipline, excitement and colour.
Mr Foran was outstanding in the march, sounding more like an army chief than a school teacher.
The pre-schoolers kicked off the day in absolute style with a 50m dash that was greatly received by the cheering crowd.
The short distance stars of the primary then got to show their stuff, with some blistering performances by Kyson, Shakayla, Kaylan, Keira, Markell, Morgan, Bayden, Leahlani, Jimmy, Zoe, Zach, Chandel and Kyah.
The timekeepers had their work cut out for them with close finishes in every race.
The 200m sprint was next with a few middle distance runners showing their class.
Ryan, a Year 2 student, ran with the senior final and did not look one bit out of place.
His time placed him as the second fastest junior runner, well ahead of many older competitors.
Standout performers in the track events were William and Kimberly in the shot put, Lachlan, Coreen and Jake in the discus, Treyden in the long jump and Alex in the high jump.
It was then the 800m race and an opportunity for the long distance runners to shine.
Sasha ran an outstanding race, to top her division.
In the end, Jugarah continued their dominance of the Athletics Points Score to narrowly defeat Gwondo and Burbi who finished second and third respectively.
A huge thank you went out to all of the parents who showed up and supported their children and to the P&C for their brilliant menu at the canteen.
Overall Age Champions were: Noah 3-4O, Jasmin 3-4O, Branden 5-6C, Chandel 5-6P and Zac 5-6P Tawana 5-6P.
