Blocked pipes given the flush

Unpleasant sewage overflows will be a thing of the past with Armidale Dumaresq Council (ADC) engaging Insituform Pacific Pty Ltd under contract to upgrade the local government area’s sewer system with the latest pipe relining technology.
This work is part of a “Pollution Reduction Program’ submitted to the NSW Environment Protection Agency to reduce blockages in our sewerage system.
ADC is responsible for over 200 kilometres of sewer mains in Armidale and over the next three years Insituform Pacific will be installing liners inside sewer pipes at various locations throughout the city. The first of the three stages of the contract will commence in mid April, taking around six months to complete (weather permitting). When complete, the contractor will have relined approximately 4.6 kilometres of sewer main in various sizes.
“This lining technique is purely trenchless with the contractor only requiring access to existing sewer manholes to install the liner,” said Mark Byrne, ADC’s Utilities Technical Officer.
“The liner creates one continuous pipe between manholes which eliminates joints that let tree roots in. Being able to use the old pipe as a conduit reduces the disruption to residents as well as costing less compared to open trenching. If a section of pipe is in such bad repair that the liner can’t be installed, Council workers will excavate to do a point repair; however, we don’t expect much call for these repairs.” Mr Byrne said.
A notification letter will be sent out to residents by Insituform Pacific prior to the start of any works.
Although most residents won’t be affected by this, Council asks for your patience and co-operation during these installations to make sure that the works run smoothly and efficiently.
