Kelvin Kerkow, Mark Casey and Barrie Lester will lead an top field for this year’s Kingscliff Beach Bowls Club’s $15,000 Open Pairs Tournament, starting Sunday July 29.
The event, due to end on Wednesday, August 1, will be sponsored by Schweppes in conjunction with Aero Bowls who will have their bowls and products on display during the tournament and will be represented by Kelvin Kerkow, Brett Wilkie, Rod Heaton and Walter Jacobs in the tournament.
The event showcases some of the club’s leading bowlers and pits them against stars from the Tweed, Australia and New Zealand.
This year’s entries include last year’s winning combination of John Green and Max Jaffray who will be keen to defend their title against a strong field including Mark Casey and Barrie Lester, Ryan Bester and Bruce McNish, Sean Baker and Steven Tong, the father and son team of Ben and Jeff Twist and Kingscliff pairs champions of Michael Turner and Ian “Tails” Taylor. Turner and Taylor are in top form after making the state pairs finals to be held later this year.
There is also an international flavor with the NZ teams of Paul Girdler and Ken Walker, Raika Gregory and John Cross, who are here to contest the TBA Trans Tasman series.
To compete against these bowlers we have our local Kingscliff and Northern NSW bowlers and bowlers from Tasmania to Central Queensland entered in the event to make it a very popular in the Bowls calendar.
Sectional play of 32 teams will be held on Sunday and Monday with post sectionals of 32 teams divided into Group A and B on Tuesday morning culminating to the Group semi-finals and finals on Wednesday.
Spectators will be rewarded to some excellent and exciting bowls over the four days and are most welcome.
