Championing the future

Speaking for the Respect team campaigning for the Tweed Council election in September, if elected I would advocate for the community on important issues, even those outside of council jurisdiction.
“The State Government has done a deal with a minor party to allow recreational shooting in our National Parks,” Mr. Roberts said.
“This legislation breaks Coalition pre-election promises and is a threat to all users of National Parks.”
“Lismore, Byron and Coffs Harbour councils passed resolutions last week asking for the legislation to be rescinded, but TSC declined the opportunity when Clr Katie Milne’s resolution failed for lack of a seconder. It might be argued that council should not consider such issues because State Government is the controlling authority, but councillors should take the Tweed Shire’s concerns to all levels of government and champion their residents’ interests.
“After all, The Northern Rivers has some of the nation’s best natural heritage areas and the Tweed has a bright future in promoting nature-based tourism. There are many reasons why this is a poor decision by State Government,” Mr. Roberts said. “Whenever an issue comes up that concerns the Tweed we believe that council needs to have the courage to stand up for our future.”
