Long-standing Tweed Shire Councillor Warren Polglase has announced he will again contest local government elections in a group that includes three other local conservative independent candidates.
“This is the most important council election I can remember,” Councillor Polglase said.
“It is not a choice between pro and anti development, it is a choice between Tweed jobs and Tweed stagnation.
“Only a team of committed and competent conservative local independents like mine can guarantee a sustainable future for the Tweed.
“We have the skills and experience to manage Council efficiently, so we can keep a lid on rate rises, at a time when locals are struggling with cost of living pressures.”
Councillor Polglase’s team consists of Burringbar community leader Stuart Cahill, Murwillumbah small business owner Bill Larkin and Banora Point mother Karen Embrey, who has more than fifteen years’ government experience as office manager.
Councillor Polglase warned of the risk of a Labor Greens-dominated Council, saying that it would be “even worse than what we’ve got in Canberra”.
“The problem with political party-endorsed candidates is that their first master, once elected, is party headquarters in Sydney, rather than Tweed residents,” he said.
“We’ve already seen that, with some of the extreme Greens policies over the past four years, and it will only get worse if Sydney Labor sneaks a candidate in.”
