The Tweed Valley Banana Festival is in full swing around the Tweed, with organisers and participants gearing up for the main weekend, including Saturday’s big parade day in Murwillumbah.
However, festival co-ordinator Carol Mudge has found her own way of permanently marking this year’s event and her long association with the Festival, with a little help from event supporters Tweed Coasters Absolute Tattoo.
“This is my third tattoo and I thought that, after being involved with the Tweed Valley Banana Festival for around 15 years in different jobs, I loved the idea of a permanent reminder of the Festival,” she said.
“I LOVE the festival and participate to this day because of the wonderful memories that I have from childhood involvement. We have a photo of my Dad on a float from when he worked at Hayes Toyota.
“All my kids have participated in the festival in different ways over the past 15 years with me and they all LOVE the festival and get in and help wherever there is a need.”
The main festival day and parade promises to be a huge day, according to Carol.
The street closures begin at noon and the parade will set off from the showground and head off down the Main Street of Murwillumbah, weaving its way through to Knox Park where the Family Fun Day begins.
“There will be through traffic over the bridge with the help of the SES manning a stop and go route
The Parade is expected to take till approximately 1.30pm,” she said.
“The crowning of the Princesses will begin at approximately 2pm and then the Teen Queen at about 3 – 3.15pm, with the Queens being crowned at approximately 3.30 – 4pm.”
