Foster carers needed

Armidale residents are being called on to open their homes to children and young people who can’t live with their families.
Foster carers are urgently needed in Armidale for children of all ages who cannot live safely at home and would benefit from a supportive and safe family environment.
Community Services Northern Region Regional Director, Susan Priivald, said although Armidale is fortunate to already have a wonderful group of foster carers, there is always a need for more.
“We need carers to provide loving, stable homes for children in need, and the bigger the pool of carers, the more likely we are to match each child to the right carer or family for their individual needs,” Ms Priivald said.
She added that, while it is great when people can make a full-time commitment to fostering, for those who can’t, a commitment of even one weekend a month can make a real difference to a child and their family.
Carers can be single, de facto, with or without children and from any religious or cultural background.
Ms Priivald said foster carers are highly valued members of the community.
“While it doesn’t come without challenges, fostering is a very rewarding experience.
“I encourage anyone who is interested in becoming a foster carer to visit the Fostering NSW website at www.fosteringnsw.com.au or call 1800 236 7837.”
