Justine Elliot’s full page ad (TCW August 30 p13) blames the ‘greedy Lib/Nat Govt’ for increased electricity prices.
Who ran NSW into a massive budget deficit? Labor! Who allowed the electricity infrastructure to run down? Labor! Who initiated the ridiculous 60c/kWh feed-in rebate for solar power? Labor! Who brought in the world’s second-highest carbon price? Labor! So, who is really responsible for the inevitable price hikes?
The real greed lies with those of us who took advantage of Labor’s silly solar deal, went too big and then screamed when Barry O’Farrell wanted to reduce the rebate. Since our power savings over two years have already paid for our subsidised 1.5kW solar system, I would not object to the rebate being cut to match the supply tariff, as it should always have been and should still be, not the miserly 8c/kWh for newcomers. This would not only reduce power prices, but also keep the solar industry alive and competitive.
As with the ’pink bats’ fiasco, Labor made a mess of solar and power supply generally; and now conveniently blames its successors for the consequences.
