Performing arts students at PLC Armidale have achieved success at this year’s Armidale Eisteddfod and, to celebrate these achievements, an encore performance was held at the school last Friday.
Director of Music at PLC Stuart Pavel believes the success of the girls at the Eisteddfod is testament to the quality of the music programs running within the school.
“All our junior school students participate in one way or another in the Eisteddfod and around half of the high school students participate, either in school ensembles or individually,” said Mr Pavel.
“The concert is a chance for the students to celebrate their performances and for the rest of the school and parents to see performances from the Eisteddfod.
“We had wonderful success at the Eisteddfod this year, particularly in the strings and, for the first time, our orchestra won against the Armidale Youth Orchestra, which has been a dream of mine for some years.”
PLC drama students also competed in the Armidale Eisteddfod, performing poems, extracts from books, solo character sketches, duologues, mime, public speaking and larger group performances in full costume.
“We have at least 60 students at the school doing speech and drama,” said Speech and Drama teacher Jan Patterson.
“The students’ very favourite activity of all is called Space Jump, which is an improvisation in teams of four where they don’t know what the topic is, they are given it and they have to start acting immediately.
“Kids who do speech and drama gain a lot of confidence and really come out of their shells.”
