Eighteen-month-old local tot, Lauren Bourke, has a rare genetic anaemia that requires her to have blood transfusions every six weeks. Lauren is able to lead a happy and full life, thanks to the generosity of blood donors.
Lauren’s mum Kristie organised her work colleagues from Woolworths in Armidale to give blood at the Armidale Blood Donor Centre last week to help replenish blood stocks that are at an alarmingly low level, with an estimated three days of blood stock left.
The Australian Red Cross Blood Service aims to have six days of blood supply at all times to ensure that patients who need blood have access to it.
Kristie and her colleagues at Woolworths are encouraging the Armidale community to make an appointment to help patients like Lauren have happy lives. To make an appointment to give blood, phone 131495 or visit www.donateblood.com.au
