The power of pink gets Tweed jumping

by Judy Cartwright
Tweed Valley Equestrian Group’s The Power of Pink Dressage and Showjumping Weekend was filled with pink for the Team Pink National Cancer Foundation fundraiser.
Pink riders, pink horses, pink showjumps, pink prizes – pink was the fashionable colour for the successful weekend held on October 6 and 7 at the Murwillumbah Showgrounds.
A total of $6812.74 was raised and will be fully donated to the National Cancer Foundation.
We are grateful to South-coast Automotive who again this year started the fundraiser with a $1000 donation. The club also appreciates the variety of prizes donated for the huge raffle, almost $1000 was raised. We also have to thank the Murwillumbah Show Society for the donation of the grounds, the Judges who donated their time, and Tweed Equestrian Murwillumbah who donated five per cent of all sales made on the weekend.
This year the event was run over the two days, with Junior Dressage and Showjumping on the Saturday and Senior Dressage and Showjumping held on the Sunday. Ninety-three rounds of showjumping and 145 dressage tests were ridden.
This is the first year for the showjumping and, proving it was very popular with the riders, a fantastic amount of $700 was raised. Lynette and Andrew Moore did a great job setting up the Showjumping Course, with the stunning backdrop of Mount Warning.
The Dragons Abreast Dragon Boat Club, who cook fabulous food and run the canteen over the weekend, are all survivors of breast cancer.
They, along with TVEG, are great supporters of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, which is the leading not-for-profit ogranisation dedicated to supporting and promoting high quality research into the prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer.
Talks are already under-way for next year’s event – entertainment, perhaps a band and evening meal for both horse and non horsey people, six-bar Showjumping and Grande Prix Freestyle Dressage.
