Surf’s up at Tweed Heads

When you are as close to the beach as Tweed Heads Public School, it makes sense to have surfing as part of the sports program.
Every Friday, students slip on rashies, slap on sunscreen, grab their boards and head down to the beach for a fun-filled afternoon learning to surf.
In a longstanding community partnership, Surf School, Walkin’ on Water, have been teaching the students about surf safety and surfing, for seven years.
“The students are really cool,” says Walkin’ on Water owner Jamo. “They are so polite and enthusiastic – the whole team loves teaching them.”
Posing for a photo with her friend Crystal, Chloe Bisaro had clearly enjoyed herself. “I couldn’t stop laughing, it was so much fun.”
“We run the program in Terms 1 and 4, said teacher and surfer Tim Regan. We focus on fun physical activity and a healthy lifestyle – the kids love it and come back to school buzzing with excitement.”
This is just one of the many innovative programs students enjoy at Tweed Heads Public School. Judging by the big smiles and laughter, the students love this classroom!
