Golfing star of the future

Most golfers can only dream of representing their country but, for 13-year-old Coolangatta-Tweed Golfer Becky Kay, that dream has already come true.
The Tweed teenager has been named to represent Australia in a 72 hole stroke event at Twin Creeks Golf Club in January 2013 in Sydney as part of the Youth Olympics.
Twenty-four nations will compete in the Youth Olympics, with the Australian golf team due to play against teams from Argentina, Japan, Korea, China NZ, GB and Chinese Taipei.
The games will include an opening ceremony and all the teams will reside in the Olympic Village.  Tweed has a strong tradition in the Youth Olympics in several sports, including hockey players Matt Butturini and Jason Wilson, who both used the event as a springboard to senior teams.
Becky earned her spot after coming seventh at the Aaron Baddeley Australian Championships held at the Heritage Golf Club in Melbourne.
She recently competed in the Jack Newton International in Newcastle and came 2nd in the Under 14s and 8th overall in a very strong field, including teams from the USA and NZ.
Becky has also been invited to the launch day of the Future State Greats Program at Royal Pines and this will involve a round of golf with Australian cricket legend Ian Healy. She has also won an award for Athlete of Year in the Golf Program at the Gold Coast Academy of Sport.
Golf Australia has invited Becky to be one of five golfers from Queensland to attend the National Camp at Moonah Links next month as a future National squad member.
The camp is for adults, not just for the Under 18s.  They hold educational sessions with guest speakers in preparation for life as a professional golfer. She will have access to a number of Golf Australia service providers as well as National Coaches and will attend Day 3 of the Australian Masters at Kingston Heath.
