Uralla hosts its own Olympics

Coordinator Brownwyn Beard, Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay, Kenny Koala and Uralla Central School Deputy Principal Tracey Jenner at the Mini-Olympics in Uralla.

Students from five local schools assembled at Uralla Central to give the Olympics a local flavour, with Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay performing the official opening.
The Mini-Olympics on the school oval are held every four years to mirror the main event, this year in London.
“The opening ceremony in Uralla is pretty spectacular, with all the national flags, the march and torch relay,” the MP said.
“The coordinator Bronwyn Beard and her team put in hours of work to make this such a success and I congratulate all the participants for their great performances. It was most impressive and an opening ceremony to remember.”
Students from Rocky River, Kingstown, Kellys Plains, Kentucky and Uralla Central Schools participated in the event. Aboriginal dancers from Armidale High School performed at the opening ceremony and Kenny Koala made a guest appearance.
