Lantern markets set for Kingscliff

Jayne Henry makes preparations for the Kingscliff Lantern Markets to start in January.

There has been a lot of talk over recent months about the upcoming twilight markets in Kingscliff and, with advertising now closed, the Kingscliff Lantern Markets are a step closer to the grand opening.
The event is set to run on the first Friday of each month, adjacent to the Cudgen Headland Surf Life Saving Club in Lions Park.
Organiser Jayne Henry of Aria Events and Enter-tainment, said the event would “light up” the Kingscliff CBD 2013 and the famous Kingscliff beachfront will come alive with music, entertainment and shopping for the whole family.
“This will be an oppor-tunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together in an exciting and safe environment; a meeting place to enjoy food, shopping and entertainment in the company of friends, family and visitors to the Tweed,” Jayne, who is also the president of the Kingscliff Chamber, said.
The layout of the event in the Lions Park will see the creation of a temporary bamboo avenue of light and lantern under an umbrella of stars.
The first market is scheduled for Friday, January 4 and entertainment at the opening will include Juzzie Smith, followed by the Lissy Stanton Band on the main stage, a fashion parade by On Kliff, a busking stage, a cheese and butter making experience with Cheeses Loves You and children’s activities by Kingscliff Art.
There will be nearly 50 market stalls ranging from fashion and fair, arts and crafts and other local goodies as well as a number of quick food options in the park.
“Kingscliff is a small town of down to earth people with good honest values and accompany this with our award winning restaurant and shopping precinct, fantastic market stalls of quality local products and an impressive entertainment program, this event has enormous potential for success, sustainability and growth,” Jayne said.
“One of the main purposes of the event is to celebrate and showcase what the Tweed Region has to offer and bring communities from near and far back into the heart of Kingscliff for an exciting night out. Market stalls will again be offered to local businesses and traders of the Tweed and Northern Rivers.
“We aim to not only promote shopping local, but also buying local product and services to keep our dollars within our communities so as to support business and job opportunities here on the Tweed. We also would like to promote this as a plastic bag-free event, so bring your baskets, green bag or recycled plastic bags and help keep our waterways and ocean free of plastic!”
She said there would only be a limited number of stalls available and organisers were “being careful not to have too much of the same”.
Those interested in purchasing a stall can either register on the website at www.kingscliffevents.com.au or contact Jayne Henry on 0418 720048 or by email jayne.henry3@bigpond.com,  The market will also be in need of volunteers at each event, and an opportunity for a different charity organisation to run the sausage sizzle each month, so Jayne is encouragng any interested not-for-profit organisations to also contact her.
