The Papua New Guinea side has taken out their clash with Tweed in Sunday’s Webb Shield match at Bilambil.
The victory means they are so far undefeated in the Shield having beaten Toowoomba and Brisbane before Sunday’s game against Tweed District.
However organisers said both teams enjoyed the PNG team are keen to return for some friendlies very soon.
National coach and mentor, former Qld and Gold Coast Dolphins player Peter Anderson spoke highly of the motivation of the Papua New Guinea players and said they were keen to learn from every game.
“They’ve got passion,” he said.
“They really enjoy the game and are a professional team.”
Ten men and four women from PNG have been signed up on a scholarship program on the Gold Coast for the season and Anderson says PNG is highly respected in world cricket.
“They are really well-rounded players, as good as anyone in the world – these guys, up with Afghanistan, Ireland and Zimbabwe.”
He said Papua New Guinea has the biggest growth of cricket in the world with 116,000 new players joining the game last year.
