The Sydney Symphony will bring the awesome power of brass to Armidale for a special performance at Lazenby Hall, University of New England on Thursday, August 30.
Armidale audiences can experience the majestic sound of trumpets, trombones, french horns and tuba of the Sydney Symphony Brass Ensemble led by Australian conductor Michael Mulcahy. The 18 members of the Brass Ensemble will play a program which includes music by Gabrieli, R Strauss, Terracini and more.
The Sydney Symphony Brass Ensemble was formed in 1997 and comprises many of Australia’s finest brass players drawn from the Sydney Symphony.
The performance in Armidale forms part of a tour which also includes Grafton and Port Macquarie.
Ron Prussing, Sydney Symphony Principal Trom-bone, enjoys getting out of the orchestra’s usual home of the Sydney Opera House and meeting regional music fans.
“These concerts are always some of the most enjoyable and rewarding parts of our year,” said Prussing.
“We’re looking forward to bringing a bit of the Sydney Symphony to Armidale.”
The concert begins at 7.30pm on Thursday, August 30 in the Lazenby Hall at the University of New England.
The brass tour is made possible thanks to the Sydney Symphony’s Touring Partners Xstrata, Telstra, Regional Express and Community Partner Ausgrid.

Tickets are from $39. Bookings can be made through Dymocks — 169 Beardy Street, Armidale on 6771 4558, through the Sydney Symphony Box Office 9am — 5pm, Monday to Friday on 8215 4600 or online at: www.sydneysymphony.com
