There is a diverse range on offer at Centaur
Primary and this year, select students had the
opportunity to explore and learn about media.
The students launched their own reporting
programs and were actively spreading the
news.
Under the direction of professional Peter
Murray and teacher James Simpson, ‘Channel
C’ has learnt how to handle a camera, work
lighting, and write and report on Centaur news.
Together, this industrious group reported on
events of interest around the school during the
term and broadcast it on the school’s website.
‘Channel C’ reporter, Sienna Quinane, says
she found it challenging to be on the other side
of the camera, but loves sharing information
with people.
The school’s CAC, Centaur Academy
Class, also began a media program in
preparation to launch a radio station called
CAC FM – Centaur Academic Class Fun
Moments.
The students ‘broadcast’ a couple of
times a week by setting up speakers on the
playground and reading from their prepared
scripts and playing music for all to enjoy.
To launch this program the CAC students
visited the studios of 92.5 Gold FM and 90.9
Sea Fm and toured the offi ces. They were able
to record themselves and were able to see
fi rst-hand all that is involved in this exciting
industry.
Student Kyle McLeod’s father, Mr Rod
McLeod, showed the youthful entrepreneurs
through his workplace and taught them all
about the world of radio.
Collectively Centaur students are learning
to synergise their success with one goal in
mind – to learn, experience and present the
news.
