Hockey returns to Kingscliff

In the Tweed Border JH Williams Women’s competition it was back to the old stomping ground of Kingscliff for the grass game between Kingscliff and Casuarina.
Both teams had a settling period in the first 20 minutes with Kingscliff working hard in attack and were justly rewarded with a field goal to Catherine Conlan.
The defence of Kingscliff held firm from many attacking raids and shots on goals but were stopped by some great saves by Kingscliff’s goalie, Djena Jordan and saves off the line by Nicole Clarke.
A penalty stroke was well saved by Djena who would have stopped a train if it was coming at her.  The defence was finally broken by a goal to Casuarina’s Kym Tuckwell locking the score 1 all at the break.
Casuarina struck back through Allie Farrell in the first two minutes of the second half and lead 2-1 for the majority of the second half but Kingscliff kept working and drew back with another field goal to Zoe-Brooke Kellermeyer. The grass looked like taking it’s toll as the game slowed with the final score 2 a piece.
All round great games by Djena Jordan and Nicole Clarke in the backs and Catherine Conlan and Zoe-Booke Kellermeyer up front but great team game all round. Kingscliff improving each week.
Mullumbimby were very unlucky to have walked away with a 2-1 loss as once again Falcons clawed their way to take the points in the dying minutes. Even though the Mullum girls don’t train or normally play on grass, they found each other well throughout the game. They linked well, and worked the ball out of the defensive area when Falcons launched their attack.
Meagan Sheppard played well and scored Mullum’s only goal. The girls used their opportunities to move around the field into different positions which seemed to help in their connection with one another. Even thou Mullumbimby girls didn’t come up with a win they had fun.
Falcons Perrea Martain was solid in defence and worked well with Tiarny Prichard and Lydia Charman who both did well opening up the play. Despite playing on grass Falcons tried to keep their game as structured as they could and were rewarded with goals to Emily Hetherington.
In the JH Williams Men’s Premier League matches Murwillumbah suffered another loss yesterday going down to a very strong Ballina side 4-0. They held Ballina out in the first half and went to the break down 1 nil. Murwillumbah look to be missing some team combination at the moment and lacking some confidence.
Captain Chris Stuart said, that they are still looking to settle on their team set up and should have most guys available after Easter and on that hope to get some combinations going to score some goals and stiffen up in our
defence.
Redbacks and Bobcats toughed it out and it was Redbacks who got on the board first through a great goal to Stuart Maloney but Bobcats were quick to reply locking the score at 1 all at half time.
After the break Bobcats came out firing notching 3 more goals to seal the match 4-1. Despite the lose Maloney was happy with his team’s efforts who played hard all
game.
Other games in the JH Williams Men’s Premier League played at Lismore saw Kingscliff up against Northern Star in what was an even contest despite Kingscliff going down 5-2. Kingscliff scored through Josh King and Jordon Wilson while Tim Prichard was outstanding for Kingscliff.
While Coraki were way too strong for East Lismore running away with a 5 nil win.
There will be no hockey next weekend due to the Easter break.
