DK hold out Easts to secure second spot

Declan Humphries gets scuttled by a strong tackle by the East Armidale player.

Demon Knights will now play the top team of the Southern Conference Tamworth FC after defeating East Armidale at Doody Park on Saturday 1-0 cementing second place and a tanterlising clash for DK against Tamworth FC who they convincingly beat 2-0 in their only other game against the Tamworth side in the 2012 Premier League competition.
Demon Knights’ first half against East Armidale was poor however they managed to score the only goal through a strike from Scott Janes.
“We got the win which we needed to secure second position on the ladder,” said Demon Knights coach Alan Waddell.
“We scored in the first half but we can count ourselves fortunate that we were still in the lead at the break as they had a few chances and just couldn’t put them away.
“We made a few changes after the break which made our game a lot better, we could have scored once or twice more in the second half but it wasn’t to be.
“We just needed to lift in the second half to make sure that we won.”
The coach singled out goal keeper Luke Burmingham who made a couple of big saves and Centre Back Luke Orr who was solid all game.
“We go down to Tamworth on Saturday, we played them at home and won putting on a strong performance,” said Alan.
“We will need a similar performance in Tamworth which will be a lot harder as we will be playing on their home pitch.”
