In April 2008, well-known and much loved Australian, Noeline Brown, was appointed as Australia’s first Ambassador for Ageing. Ms Brown, who is a media personality, active community member and an Australia Day Ambassador, was reappointed as Ambassador for Ageing in 2011 for a second three-year term. Last Tuesday, she visited and addressed the Armidale U3A (University of the Third Age), encouraging them to stay active and applauding what they do. The Armidale U3A has a permanent home on the corner of Barney and Markham Streets. It boasts over 700 members and offers a diverse array of courses, including four different computer courses for seniors (over 55s).
Ms Brown had a long and successful career in radio, television and theatre. Now in her seventies, Ms Brown is still working, while also using her profile to serve as an advocate for the ageing, while communicating healthy lifestyle messages to them.
In 1962 Noelene Brown was “discovered” at Sydenham’s Pocket Playhouse and her professional career began. Two years later she featured in the popular TV hit, the Mavis Bramston Show, which made her a household name.
After working briefly in the United Kingdom, Ms Brown returned to a series of radio, theatre and TV performances in Australia.
She starred in such memorable programs as Blankety Blanks and The Naked Vicar Show. Ms Brown recently appeared in the film ‘Razzle Dazzle’ and the TV series ‘Dancing with the Stars’. She has had both popular and critical acclaim, including receiving a Logie award.
She is married to writer/producer Tony Sattler, with whom she runs a production company Wintergreen Productions. She currently lives in the Southern Highlands and continues to write, act and do community work.
