I refer to the report in the Newcastle Herald that Newcastle City Council (‘NCC’) has voted UNANIMOUSLY to halt the roll-out of 189 city parking meters (NH, ‘Positive start to Newcastle City Council’, 10/10/12).
Additionally, NCC voted to EXTEND FREE weekend parking to the western CBD, create additional parking in the Hunter Street Mall and find more areas where FREE 15 minute and 30 minute parking could be introduced.
Councillors set a deadline of January 31, 2013 for NCC staff to complete this task.
I note that the McCloy Group, the company owned by the present Newcastle Lord Mayor, is completing the Netherton Park residential subdivision.
Perhaps Cr Bailey could induce Mr McCloy to re-locate to Armidale so that our ratepayers could benefit from this style of council management for the benefit of the community.
