Eight scholarships in the Diploma of Enrolled Nursing Program are set to be offered at Kingscliff TAFE as part of a NSW Government initiative.
The NSW Government announced this week that it is offering 350 fully-funded scholarships for the Diploma of Enrolled Nursing program, with a guaranteed job offer at a NSW public hospital upon completion of the course – eight of them on the Tweed Coast.
Health Minister Jillian Skinner and Education Minister Adrian Piccoli have announced $4.5 million for the partnership between NSW Health, State Training Services and TAFE NSW.
Mrs Skinner said there are now
3000 more nurses working in our public health system since the Government was elected and this year we will welcome 2000 nurses who have just
graduated from university as they begin their first year as Registered Nurses in our hospital system.
“But, despite these extra nurses, we are experiencing a shortage of enrolled nurses,” Mrs Skinner said.
“Enrolled Nurses are a vital part
of the health system and we need to invest now, so that we can continue to provide the level of staffing needed to care for patients across the State well into the future.
Member for Tweed, Geoff Provest MP, welcomed the announcement, saying that more enrolled nurses
would improve patient care across the region.
“This is great news for the Tweed,
as the government has subsidised eight places for people to be trained at the Kingscliff TAFE campus,” Mr Provest said.
“Applicants who successfully complete the course will embark on a rewarding career within the NSW Health System and will join the hardworking nurses throughout this health district.”
Mr Provest has advised anyone interested to go to the internet for all details and an application form

Successful applicants will start the 18-month course in May.
