Hardcourt Hockey with Richard Philip

Men and Women’s Hockey in all grades is set to start again on Friday April 5.

Our Division one Women comp for 2013 will see our four local teams Casurina , Waratah Falcons, Kingscliff and Murwillumbah, like the men, play against the Lismore clubs in the JH Williams Premier Hockey league.

The ladies will play one local round then two rounds of home and away against Lismore’s best for that title. They will then come back and play two more local rounds to play in our own grand final early September.

The Waratah Falcons have only just come into training on the field. Fitness is the big thing for this team with Amy Paron, co-coach with Candis Henry, a personal trainer the girls are fit and raring to go. Their team is basically the same as last year but once again this young team has had players in and out each year due to marriages and babies. This year is no different with Bobbie Philip back into the team after have a healthy baby boy but her sister Ebony is out as she is now pregnant.

These player moves will give the chance of some younger players to show how keen they are to step and fill some big shoes.

Casuarina, who are last year premiers, have got a new coach. Louise Ferguson moves into the role for the team who will be without the two Fitzpatrick girls Savannah and Madison who have both moved to Brisbane for studies and hockey scholarships. So they too will have some new younger players stepping up.

Kingscliff, coached by Andrew Kirby, has a few new signings. Andrew is keeping his lips sealed about who but all he has to say is that Kingscliff’s style this year will be a lot more aggressive. They may start off slowly but by September they will be peaking.

Murwillumbah coached by Chris Stewart have will the same team as last year which will give him solidarity.
