It wouldn’t be seniors week here on the Tweed without the ever-popular and slightly dotty Crackpot Players at the Tweed Community Centre.
Known for their crazy and often improvised performances, the group have become an important part of the week which kicks off on Sunday with an opening ceremony at the Community Centre.
However, this year they are promising “something different” at their morning event, which will begin at 10.30am and go through to 12.30am and include morning tea, lunch and a trivia morning – with a difference.
“We’re performing but it’s a trivia morning too and it’s a bit of fun,” Pauline Kingman said, adding cryptically that some of the questions would be “visual”. Just what that means and WHO they will be dressing up as, remains a closely guarded secret.
“It’s pick-a-box and things like that – the theme is “are you a film and tv buff”. We didn’t know how many members were going to be available this time so that’s what we decided to do. We will be acting out a few parts and Paula Fretwell is going to sing.
“It is going to be a fun morning – with lots of ‘Hollywood stars’. We’ve asked those coming along to dress up too, as people from Old Hollywood.”
The cover charge of $5 will get you morning tea and a light lunch as well as a show.
“That will get them but they might have to pay to get out,” Lionel Fretwell joked in very typical Crackpot fashion.
“There will be prizes for the stars,” Pauline said. “And lots of ‘famous’ stars or maybe in this case ‘infamous’ ‘stars’.”
