Tweed Shire Council staff are working with members of the Kingscliff and District Chamber of Commerce following the identifications of “parking issues” thrown up by the Marine Parade upgrade.
According to the council, design staff have been working to “finetune parking”, which is regaining momentum after rain delays.
The project is currently a fortnight behind schedule, due to the heavy and consistent rain that has soaked the Tweed since the project began on February 4.
A council spokesman said public use of the new one-way configuration had identified some parking issues which Council was addressing in liaison with Chamber members.
The introduction of a single lane of traffic – from Turnock Street to Seaview Street – has introduced some parking problems for motorists, particularly the parallel parking spots on the western side of Marine Parade.
“We are looking at lengthening those parking bays to make them easier to access,” Civil Design Engineering Coordinator Warren Boyd said.
A Council crew has finished constructing the kerbs and realigning the path for Stage 1, a 120-metre section from Turnock Street to the Kingscliff Beach Hotel, despite the rain.
However, it has been unable to seal the realigned sections of road, which were also scheduled to be completed by mid-March.
“We’re now hoping to have that done in the next two to three weeks, so works are completed by Easter,” Warren said.
“We will then look to start Stage 2 after Easter.”
