Seniors serenaded at the Centre

The faces of local senior community members projected pure enjoyment earlier this month as students from Centaur primary school entertained in a performance that was both entertaining and interactive at the Salvation Army Centre in Banora.

Gathering on the first Wednesday of each month, Banora Point’s Salvation Army volunteers provide morning tea and diverse activities for the elderly and usually a visit from their next door neighbours at Centaur.

The Centaur students take pleasure in sharing songs and instrumental pieces each term and are always well received by their audience.

In connection with the school’s belief in living effectively, Mr Allan Griffin (Salvation Army volunteer) distributes his own optimistic life lessons, “When life’s burdens seem heavy with things that you cannot fix, take a lesson from the fir tree. In a storm when the burden of the snow gets too heavy it relaxes and the excess weight falls off.”

Through the enjoyment of music the gap between the generations closes, as both seniors and juniors share weightless appreciation and laughter.

Deputy Principal, Jenny Foster said it was a “wonderful opportunity to showcase many of our beautiful students’ skills and how lovely to watch the faces on the elder generation as they thoroughly enjoyed what the students could do”.
