A one point victory for Armidale combination Mary Dufty and Jacquie Morgan secured their first Shirley Hewitt Memorial Jug on Sunday at the Armidale Golf Club. They fought off the spirited duo of Helene Dawson and Chris Russell who finished in second place.
Players representing 22 clubs from throughout the state and as far north as Coolangatta Qld played over the weekend in picture perfect weather and playing conditions.
Mary and Jacquie, who took up golf together, have been playing for around six years and really enjoy playing together.
“Mary played exceptionally well today, which really helped us,” said Jacquie.
“We don’t really look at our card when we are out there, so we weren’t really sure how we were going, so we have no real expectation or much thought into what we have to do, we just go out there and do our best.
“Mary’s putting and her second shots were the best part of her game on Sunday and our philosophy is ‘if you aren’t having fun you shouldn’t be out there playing’.”
