Representative teams impress

By HELEN RIGNEY – TWEED ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT

Our under-12s, under-13s under-15s under-18s and opens all attended the Northern Rep Carnival on the weekend and we were happy to see our 12 Tornadoes, 15s and our 18s all finish runners-up in their division.   Well done to all teams who competed.
Most of these teams will back up for the Mother’s Day Carnival this weekend at Logan. We appreciate the dedication of these players and their families for playing considering it’s Mother’s Day. Our Rep teams will compete each Sunday in May with Reps leading up to state to be held at Ipswich over the long weekend.
Our under-16 Premier League team is travelling well in the Mount Franklin Championships played in Brisbane each week.   The girls are coming off a close game against Sunshine Coast last weekend. Tweed won 50-47 and will take on Downey Park at the Klump Road courts, Mount Gravatt, at 6.30pm this Friday night. This is an exciting competition and our Tweed team under the guidance of coach Lisa Richards is progressing competitively in the competition into round six this weekend.
Speaking of Mother’s Day – our Rep Mother’s Day raffle was drawn on Saturday and while I would like to name the winners unfortunately I can’t as some of the prizewinners have kept the win a secret to surprise their mum on their special day.    We wish all of our mums a very happy Mother’s Day this coming Sunday.
Our Netsetgo program will begin from round eight and we are still awaiting on a volunteer to come forward to run this program. Our Rep teams will be rostered on to assist with the running of this program and we would appreciate hearing from our clubs as to whether they have someone who can assist.  If we can get more than one volunteer that would be great.
Our challenge carnival is drawing closer and with every week I’m not sure whether I’m nervous or excited.  We appreciate the assistance we are receiving from our challenge committee, the majority of our clubs as well as Tweed Shire Council.
All clubs are reminded that our next general meeting will be held on Wednesday night 15 May at the clubhouse from 7pm.   Please make sure all clubs are represented.
Big welcome and thank you to Christine Rogers who has taken on the position of canteen convenor and she has certainly made a positive impact already. Also we have our own coffee machine installed and running out of the canteen with the first week being successful and it will only get better as the weather cools.
Tweed Netball has again secured Laura Geitz to run her clinic on 27 September. Bookings will be able to be made through the Laura Geitz website and we will confirm one this is open to nominate. This clinic was extremely popular last year with over 60 players attending. Keep your eye on this space for further details.
