Economic compass

TWEED business operators are being urged to have their say on the economic direction of the shire.
Tweed Shire Council and regional tourism body Destination Tweed are developing a strategy to improve the area’s economic opportunities but need help from local businesses to identify what areas need attention.
The council’s Economic Development Co-ordinator Mark Tickle said a confidential survey of local businesses would give them useful insight into issues being faced including business performance, barriers to industry development and opportunities for economic growth.
Urban Enterprise Pty Ltd had been appointed to help council and Destination Tweed to develop its “Sustain Tweed” economic development strategy.
Mr Tickle said the strategy would examine the changing nature of economic development in the Tweed and look at the way businesses and industry sectors were performing in the current climate.
It would also seek to identify growth opportunities and impediments, as well as the resources and infrastructure needed by the different industries.
