This year the Choral Society’s Christmas Concert repertoire has been inspired by the Diamond Jubilee, with a distinctly British flavour.
Conductor for this concert, Anne Matley, hatched the idea while watching telecasts of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and chose some of those pieces to perform. Warwick Dunham will again be performing the ‘Pomp and Circumstance’ March at this concert, but this time, the audience can follow the choir in singing ‘Land of Hope and Glory’. The audience will be invited to join in the singing of two Christmas Carols played by Warwick, who will also play an organ solo.
Most pieces will be accompanied on piano by Robyn Bradley and the program includes madrigals and two of the six Choral Songs ‘From the Bavarian Highlands’.
Anne Matley said she has had lots of fun working with such an enthusiastic group of singers who have taken on board some new “choralography” techniques, even doing a flash mob for one item.
The concert will also feature talented recorder players from Armidale High, Elana and Shae Leske, who will play a Sailor’s Hornpipe and a duet, as well as providing lovely descants in some of the choral pieces.
The Diamond Jubilee Christmas Concert will be held at the Uniting Church on Sunday, November 25 starting at 3pm. Entry is by $15 donation and includes the famous afternoon tea. Remember to bring your singing voices with you, as you will be invited to join in!
