LEN Peak Oval, Kirra is usually the home of the Coolangatta Blues but this weekend the Blues Aussie Rules players will be in the pink and they are hoping that will mean lots of women will continue to be in the pink too.
The Blues have been turning pink once a year, each May, for the past four years to aid the McGrath Foundation with a day of football, fun and pink lunch frivolities.
However this year will take on a special significance with Gold Coast vet Geoff Wilson and two-time breast cancer survivor Kate Carlyle both joining in the fun.
The dynamic duo will be aiming to promote breast awareness and raise funds, with all funds from this year’s Blues event going toward’s Geoff’s forthcoming trek.
It is also a chance for Geoff to talk about his big adventure later in the year.
In November this year Geoff will start his “Pink Polar Expedition” – a gruelling crossing of Antarctica, one of the planet’s toughest environments.
Geoff will use skis and kite power to traverse the ice, while hauling a ‘boob sled’ of supplies for the journey.
The journey is in support of friend and former radio colleague, journalist Kate.
He said the journey solo and unassisted might be as tough as some of the challenges faced by those like Kate, who had been diagnosed with breast cancer and had to conquer their own solo trek.
The Blues will turn pink on Sunday, 5 May with the Coolangatta teams from Under 18s through Masters wearing pink jumpers, shorts and socks at Len Peak Oval, Kirra in aid of the McGrath Foundation.
The whole day will be pink themed, with pink ribbons on sale.
The club also has more than 150 bookings confirmed for an All Pink Ladies Lunch in aid of the McGrath Foundation QLD (include entertainment).
Tickets $40, available from club reception.
