Smart summit here

DELEGATES from across the globe will head to the Gold Coast this week for the first Intelligent Cities Summit at the Gold Coast Convention Centre.
The summit will involve hundreds of technology, industry and government leaders and will be held on Tuesday, 7 May and Wednesday, 8 May.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said the summit would allow delegates from across the globe to come together to outline plans and strategies for cities to create jobs, drive innovation and develop new industries.
He said it would also showcase the Gold Coast’s desire to bring life to education and information technology sectors.
“This summit will bring together the best minds in the innovation field and help deliver transformational ideas to bolster new industries in the city,” he said.
“One of my top priorities is to broaden the economy so young people can enjoy exciting and rewarding careers right here on the Gold Coast.
“We were the first city in Australia to pilot an Innovation Dashboard, a live barometer of our competitiveness, and I am eager to see how emerging technology can help us deliver even better services more efficiently.”
The event will be hosted in partnership with the Future Cities Institute, an international organisation that helps build innovation ecosystems for cities.
Future Cities Institute CEO Malcolm Fraser said cities such as the Gold Coast were central to creating innovative new products and services for global markets.
“The summit will help us learn how local government and business can embrace the new digital economy though innovation, infrastructure and the collaboration of business, government and educational institutions,” said Mr Fraser.
“Over 90 per cent of urban growth is occurring in the developing world, so cities are now acting as ‘hubs of innovation’.”
