Finally a beautiful weekend on the Tweed, the weather was great and the fishing even better.
Saturday I met up with Craig Costigan (on his boat), Ric Creighton on his yak and together we headed to Terranora flats with an assortment of hard-bodied lures with the favorites being a Berkley Scum Dog and shallow diver.
We started off at the jew hole, then hit the oyster leases, but where we caught all the fish was in the middle of the flats where all the weed beds are.
Ric caught six legal bream all up and countless undersize fish. With the shallow divers, the best technique is to slowly roll them back to the yak, often I will just let it sit there, slowly rising to the surface, twitch it again then let it stop, often you’ll find that’s when the fish hit it. A very exciting way to fish, unlike with bait you’re always doing something, chasing those fish and I always think “this cast will be the one” and a lot of the time it is.
Lovely to see so many families out on the water with the kids getting into it with their little pink and blue rods – and the best part is everyone always has a big smile on their face regardless of how many, if any fish they have caught. You’ve gotta love the holidays.
