Final preparations

STREET beautification work at Marine Parade, Kingscliff, stepped up a notch this week as council workers strived to have everything finished in time for Anzac day ceremonies in the town today.
Under the watchful eye of Kingscliff RSL Sub Branch members Tweed Shire Council workers put the finishing touches to the area, just in time for Anzac Day.
“The final concrete pour was made on Monday morning and then we received 100 square metres of turf which was then put in,” Tweed Shire Council manager of Works Ian Kite said.
“On Tuesday we removed all the form work around the concrete and finished laying the turf before tidying it all up on Wednesday.
“We will still have traffic control in place but we will be adjusting that for Anzac Day.”
He said RSL members had been down to check on the work most days to make sure it would be ready for the two services – at 5.45 and 11am (with the march convening at 10am). Services will also be held at Tweed (dawn and morning), Pottsville 8am, and Cudgen (dawn).
The work, part of the $600,000 streetscaping for Marine Parade between Turnock and Seaview Street had been expected to be finished by now, but February’s heavy rain played havoc with the schedule.
However Mr Kite said it was nearing completion.
