Fishing on the Tweed By David Solano
IT was cold, dark, but very exciting at 4.30am Saturday as we were under the bridge at Tumbulgum jigging away with plastics in an attempt to get some trevs or school jew.
Craig ‘Coz’ Costigan has a fantastic sounder on his boat, it literally takes photos of the bottom. We could see a lot of fish but getting them to bite was hard work, there were three of us and we all were using different plastics.
Slowly we started catching a few little bream and flathead and just before the sun came up I got a big bite. Here we go, as straight away I felt the very distinctive head pulls of a schooly. I hooked him on a gulp shrimp in the camo colour on a relatively light 12th/oz jig head. Gee they’re a lot of fun on light gear, it’s so addictive this type of fishing once you get one you’ll be back for more.
These past four weeks have been great hitting Clarrie Hall Dam, Porpoise Wall at Ballina, then it was down to Yamba, this week it was Tumbulgum. Wonder where I’ll end up next Saturday? Cheers.
