Super idea for school holidays

By TANIA PHILLIPS

IS IT a bird, is it a plane? No it’s the Tweed’s own group of caped crusaders.
The Family Centre at Tweed South and Tweed Centro are hosting a cape making day on 11 July during the school holidays to prepare for the second annual Superhero Saturday event to be held later in the year.
The cape making day will be held at Tweed Centro (Tweed Mall for those of us older members of the community) from 10am to 2pm outside Target.
And event co-ordinator Melissa Scott said it would be a chance to join in the fun with craft, face-painting and – for those who register for Superhero Saturday – making a cape for free.
“Superhero Saturday is a fun and exciting orienteering style event for the whole family, held in September, at Jack Evans Boat Harbour,” Melissa said.
“Children will team up with adult family members and/or friends to find hidden checkpoints, each leading to a new and exciting activity that will really test your super powers!”
“Come dressed in the cape you make at our Cape Making Day or your best superhero costume, as simple or as elaborate as you like.
“There are great prizes up for grabs, including a prize for the best dressed family team and a major prize draw. Last year we gave away two family holidays, one on the day, and one for the highest fund-raising team.”
Superhero Saturday is The Family Centre’s major fund-raising event and funds raised will support our work in local primary schools.
“You can also take on an additional challenge and help us by fund-raising during the lead-up to the event,” she said.
Superhero Saturday will be held on Saturday, 7 September. For more details, to register or to get involved as a community sponsor visit www.superherosaturday.com.au or call 07 5524 8711. To find out more about The Family Centre visit www.thefamilycentre.org.au
