THE Tweed Unlimited Arts group will throw open its doors to the general public this weekend for their annual open day at their Pioneer Parade premises at Banora Point.
This year’s event carries the theme “Oceans Alive” with all of the artistic groups at TUA creating something to fit into the theme.
The theme has everyone from the embroiderers to the painters, spinners and weavers and even the pottery group preparing ocean inspired goods to display and to sell.
Even TUA’s newest group – the quilters – have got on board, creating a “fish quilt” to raffle on the day.
“We only started a month ago but we seem to be getting a new member each week,” quilting member Rhonda Lennon said.
“We do hand or machine sewing and it’s just a matter of bringing along whatever project you are working on. We don’t have a teacher – everyone just helps each other. We all have different styles and have a mix of beginners to the more experienced.”
The group meets each Friday from 9am to 1pm to share ideas and have a lot of fun enjoying their hobby together. To see just what they are doing, check them out at the TUA 2013 Oceans Alive open days next weekend.
The open day, which includes demonstrations by each of the groups, will be held from 9am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday and light refreshments will be available as well as their always popular “hot soup deal” where you can pick and buy your locally made bowl and have it filled with home-made soup.
