Brown goes honky-tonk

By TANIA PHILLIPS

MORE than 150 people packed the Kingscliff Amenities Centre on Saturday afternoon to hear former Greens Senator Bob Brown speak.
The crowd was even treated to a little honky-tonk piano following the senator’s speech in support of Fingal-based Greens candidate for Richmond Dawn Walker.
“Bob Brown’s visit to Kingscliff was a sell-out event with people arriving in droves to hear him speak,” Dawn Walker said.
“He outlined the importance of supporting Greens in both the lower and upper houses of government.
“His speech touched on everything from the balance of power in the senate to what he saw as the importance of having two Greens in the lower house.
“For a while I was the only Australian Green in Parliament, but now there’s 10 of us representing every state in Australia and 1.7 million people voted Green in the last federal election,” Mr Brown said.
“It was a real thrill to have Bob Brown come to Kingscliff to speak and take questions from the community in their local hall – the way politics should be,” Dawn said.
