Music returns to the Soundlounge

By TANIA PHILLIPS

THE Gold Coast is once again set to be a premier live music destination for national and international artists, with the launch of the newly refurbished Soundlounge in Currumbin.
Over the past decade Soundlounge has hosted some of the best touring acts in Australia and to celebrate the 10-year anniversary, it has had a little facelift.
The new-look venue is set to re-open in August with increased capacity, an enhanced sound system, room acoustics, and new furnishings.
A co-operative project between Currumbin RSL and Burleigh Heads agency R&B Creative, Soundlounge was first opened in 2004 and has hosted more than 500 shows with thousands of artists including Sarah Blasko, Kate Miller Heidke, Boy and Bear, Passenger, Angus and Julia Stone, Eric Bibb and Blue King Brown.
Founder and Soundlounge promoter and Managing Director of R&B Creative, Rob Bare, believes the success of the music venue is the result of quality branding, promotion and production values. Not to mention the renaissance of the Australian live music scene.
“The Currumbin RSL has been instrumental in supporting the vision, reality and success of a great live music venue here on the coast,” he said.
Soundlounge is set to re-open its doors on Friday, 2 August with the incredibly talented Thelma Plum.
The Brisbane-based singer-songwriter burst onto the scene, winning the 2012 Triple J Unearthed and has since gone on to win a Deadly award for best emerging talent. Thelma has opened national tours for Bob Evans and Emma Louise, and is about to begin her first headline tour ‘Rosie’.
With artists Josh Pyke, Busby Marou and Mat McHugh also booked, Rob is confident about the future of Soundlounge.
“I see the calibre of acts at Soundlounge only moving upward and onward from here,” he said.
Currumbin RSL CEO Anne Stovin is also looking forward to seeing Soundlounge back at the club.
“Soundlounge has pioneered bringing notable live music acts into an RSL club, and has successfully done so for the last 10 years,” she said.
“I’m excited to see what’s in store for the venue and its influence on the Gold Coast’s music and arts scene.”
Tickets for upcoming shows can be purchased on the new website, soundlounge.com.au
