Teams vie for finals

Tweed Netball By HELEN RIGNEY

HOPING all of our Saturday netballers have enjoyed their holiday because we all hit the courts this weekend to head into the business end of the season.
With only two more rounds to play after this weekend’s round 13 games, all teams will be keen to produce good results on the courts to maintain their positions on the ladder heading into the final series.
The semi-finals will be played over three weekends and the top five in each grade will compete. The semi-finals will be played on 10 August with the finals on17 August and the grand final on the 24 August.
Presentations will begin immediately following the games on grand final day and we ask that all clubs request that teams stay for the presentations and it would be great if your clubs could encourage teams who do not make the finals to come on down and support their fellow club members.
All games on grandfinal day will be played in the one timeslot (to be confirmed). Reminder that our NetSetGo players will continue their program through until 17 August with Danielle.
Not all of our teams have been able to rest over the holidays – our 16s Premier league team have been progressing through their rounds in the Mount Franklin Challenge each Friday night in Brisbane. I was lucky to watch the girls a couple of Friday nights ago against Logan and they produced a “dig deep” effort to come from eight behind to level the score at the final bell.
Logan are the front-runners in this competition and our girls certainly sent them the message that they are great contenders for this year’s title.
Our 16s won last Friday night and they are currently sitting third on the ladder and they will meed Jimboomba this Friday night at 8pm. They will then have a week off before playing Sunshine coast on 2 August followed by Downey Park on 9 August.
If any of our association members can make it up to watch and support this team it is certainly a great experience. Keep up the good work Lisa, Judy, Sandra and your team of talented young players.
I would like to sincerely apologise to the hardworking Banora Point families (I omitted this from my last column) who all assisted over the challenge weekend in our canteen and drinks van. You as well as our all of our clubs put in a lot of long hard hours to ensure that the weekend ran smoothly. Thank you and once again sorry for this omission.
Couple of dates to keep in mind: General meeting 24 July at the clubhouse from 7pm – all clubs must be represented. Rep Dinner on 3 August at Visions Twin Towns – all players and families who wish to attend should book their seat at the office from this weekend. Laura Geitz Clinic – 27 September at Arkinstall Park. Our date for this clinic should appear on the Laura Geitz website by the end of this week – great day of learning with one of the best goal keepers in the world of netball. Head to Laura’s website to book your spot – www.laurageitz.com.au. No bookings can be taken by us at Tweed.
AGM – 18 September. All positions on the executive are open for nomination. Nomination forms can be collected from the office and handed in prior to the meeting.
