Round Mountain Girls come home

LOCAL heroes Round Mountain Girls are set to return home to help Cabarita Sports club celebrate their 50th anniversary.

“It was seven years ago we made up this story of the band being held captive on Round Mountain and we were forced to perform unnatural acts with Bluegrass instruments: namely doing cover versions of classic pop and rock tunes,” muses Willy B, bass player.
“We used the Sports Club in our story as our place of refuge after escaping!”
Things have certainly changed a lot for the band.
Now with three albums under their belt, their original material is the main focus for Round Mountain Girls.
The band, along with fiddler, Rabbit Robinson, has won numerous Golden Fiddle Awards with their second album, One Step Closer.
Their original material, written by Chris Brooker and Chris Eaton, has also seen RMG take out songwriting awards in 2012.
Now with their brand new album, Getting There Is Only Halfway Back, things are looking bigger and brighter than ever.
Actor, Jack Thompson, features on the album, playing harmonica and the beautiful Felicity Urquhart has added some harmonies to the album as well.
Getting There Is Only Halfway Back has been nominated for a North Coast Entertainment Industry Award.
“We’ve got a busy couple of months coming up”, said drummer, Rex Carter.
“We’re off to Yeppoon for the Village Festival, followed by Gympie Muster and a string of shows in Sydney and Newcastle. The aim is to promote our new album and spread the RMG love!
“The past two times we played at Cabarita the turnout has been immense. This looks like it’s going to be even bigger. The locals have supported since day one and they know how to have a good time. It’s gonna be a fun night!”
