FRIENDS of Armidale Dumaresq Library (FOADL) have donated $500 towards the revised edition of Images of Armidale, which is now in the final stages of completion before going off to be printed.
The book is a historical pictorial of some of Armidale’s most recognisable buildings and will be a great addition to your coffee table or as a gift for family and friends. Proceeds from the sale of the book will go towards the Armidale Dumaresq Civic Precinct Project (ADCPP) with the first stage of the project planned to be the building of a new Armidale Library.
President of the FOADL Christine Stephen was pleased to contribute some funds to such a worthwhile project.
“I think the tourist industry in Armidale will be very pleased to have Images of Armidale available and the University of New England has also expressed interest because we really don’t have a book that showcases Armidale’s beautiful building,” she said.
Judith Ross-Smith, chairperson of the Armidale Dumaresq Civic Precinct Project (ADCPP) was grateful for the donation from the FOADL.
“The book is currently with the graphic designer before we proof it and ship it off to the printer,” Judith Ross-Smith said.
“We are planning to print 5000 and they will be available all over Armidale.
“This was in fact the final amount of money that we needed to complete the project so it is very significant.”
As far as the Armidale Dumaresq Civic Precinct Project committee are concerned, the new library is still on the council’s strategic plan.
“We are working very hard and are just assuming that we will eventually get the money for it,” Judith Ross-Smith said.
“We are still lobbying councillors to push forward with the new library. It has been put off for too long and it is time that it rose to the top of the list.”
