New general surgeon for hospital

A NEW general surgeon, Dr Basavaraj Mundasad has commenced work at Armidale Hospital.
The appointment of Dr Raj (as he prefers to be known) further enhances the hospital’s service stability and capacity to deal with a range of common general surgical presentations.
“We now have four general surgeons, which gives more stability to the Department of Surgery in terms of sharing elective and emergency after-hours work,” the Hospital’s Director of Medical Services, Dr Max Mansoor said.
“General surgeons are important to hospitals because they are able to deal with a range of surgical conditions such as injuries, acute abdominal complaints and certain tumours.
“Dr Raj is very keen and he will be welcomed here in Armidale. He has come to us from the United Kingdom and so will adjust to working in Australia very quickly.
“He will further enhance our surgical team, nursing staff and junior doctors.”
Dr Raj finished his basic surgical training in India and moved to the United Kingdom in 2002 for higher surgical training.
After completing his higher surgical training in Belfast and Aberdeen, he worked as a locum consultant general and colorectal surgeon in the UK before joining Armidale Hospital. Dr Raj’s wife, who is a general practitioner, and a young daughter, who are currently based in Melbourne, will soon join him in Armidale.
