IT is almost back to it’s starting point in Canberra but last week it was Tweed’s turn to host the Sri Chinmoy Peace Run.
The runners, from 26 different nationalities, got a hero’s welcome when they stopped in at Tweed Heads Public School on Friday morning.
They were greated by mayor Barry Longland, and the school’s students explaining that the run was a global event.
“Carl Lewis and Mother Theresa have run with the torch,” runner Bahumanya Guy from Oxford in the UK said during Friday’s visit.
The event is the brainchild of athlete, philosopher, artist, musician and poet, Sri Chinmoy dedicated his life to the global pursuit of peace. He founded the event in 1987 and since then the torch has been handled by millions of people and visited more than 100 countries.
The current run has been timed to co-incide with the 100 years celebrations for Canberra.
