ST Anthony’s Catholic Primary School’s 10-years boys rugby league team has has finished second in the prestigious NSW Rugby League All Schools Rugby League Carnival held in Penrith last week.
The schools 10s and open teams both took part in the event with the opens winning two of their three games while the 10s proved the surprise packets of their competition.
“Our 10s team was the big surprise package,” St Anthony’s deputy principal Mick Kennedy said.
“We knew they were a good team but we didn’t know they would make it all the way to the final.”
Coach Adam Carpenter was extremely pleased with the fantastic performance from the boys.
“The boys played six games in total with no reserves. The semi-final against St Columbkille’s, Corimal, was the boys’ bravest performance. With minutes to go and down 10-nil, they put two tries on to take the win 12-10 and advance to the final.
‘Walking wounded’ was how one parent described the team as they left the field.
