THE small village of Hillgrove and surrounds, east of Armidale, is in mourning following the tragic death of one of its best known residents.
Local grazier Douglas James Faint, 57, is believed to have been working on a fencing project, 22kms east of Hillgrove, on the Long Point Road, when a freak accident claimed his life last Friday.
Mr Faint was working with a tractor on his property “Glenmore”, moving timber off a fence line, when a tree branch swung around, delivering a fatal blow. Police are preparing a report for the Coroner.
A highly regarded member of the Hillgrove community, Mr Faint was known as a tireless worker and dedicated family man who gave much to his community.
Mr Faint was considered a ‘good all-rounder’ on the land. He was a respected horseman, cattle handler and had been a regular fixture at Armidale cattle sales, rodeos and camp drafts.
Mr Faint has been described as having been “a neighbourly neighbour and mate to many”.
He is survived by his wife, Trish, three sons and two grandsons.
Funeral arrangements were yet to be announced at the time of publication.
