Tibetan art a peaceful lesson

THE amazing Mandala Program of the Sacred Footsteps from the Roof of the World Tour will soon commence at Centro Armidale.
A group of Tibetan Buddhist Monks, all the way from monasteries in India, will be visiting the centre from Tuesday 9 July to Sunday 14 July.
Each day at Centro Armidale, the monks will work on the creation of a beautiful traditional sand mandala.
A sand mandala is a traditional Tibetan Buddhist artistic creation made by pouring grains of brightly coloured marble powder onto a board in a specific pattern.
Working from the centre to the edges, the marble powder is applied using metal funnels. The result is a beautiful piece of artwork full of colour and fine detail.
The monks will begin each day with a session of deep voice chanting to mentally prepare for the day’s work on the mandala.
After the mandala is completed, it will be swept away as a reminder of the impermanence of all life.
