Lions make a splash

By TANIA PHILLIPS

THERE will be a new landmark around the Tweed Coast from now on with the Kingscliff Lions unveiling their brand-new barbecue trailer.
The Lions and their trailer are often a fixture at local events, including local school fund-raisers and other community events.
The new barbecue trailer, which is sure to be hard to miss with its bright purple paint job, was bought after a grant from the Federal Government.
The basic trailer was adapted by Lion Peter Oliver who put his engineering skills to work to create what President Alison Lewis described as ‘the best piece of catering equipment on the Tweed!’
The trailer is fully configured with hot water and washing facilities, twin barbecues, lighting, power and storage for gazebos, tables and cooking equipment. At a recent event to launch the new equipment, Lions decided that the trailer, which is bright purple in colour, should be christened ‘The Purple People Eatery’
Meanwhile long-serving Lion Paul Crompton has been honoured by fellow Kingscliff Lions as their ‘Lion of the Year’.
Paul has been a Lion for many years and has held most of the important positions in the the club, recently finishing a term as secretary.
The award was introduced in memory of late Lion Don Willoughby, a charter member of the Kingscliff club.
